    Abstract/Overview
This volume incorporates material on stilbenes, bibenzyls, phenanthrene, their 9, 10- derivatives, and related plant products (similar in biosynthesis to fiavonoids), all derived from cinnamic acid and malonyl-CoA. The text and references take up most of the book but are followed by a detailed and lengthy appendix on stilbenoid structures (over 40 pages). Their chemistry, biochemistry, distribution and possible physiological properties are discussed. The contents begin with an Introduction dealing with compounds formed by the phenylpropanoid-polymalonate pathway and then deal with stilbenoids in lower and higher plants (Chapters 2, 3 and 4), followed by biosynthesis and chemical synthesis, analysis and identification. Chapter 7 covers biological activity and includes sections on antibacterial and antifungal activity. References for all the chapters, the appendix, and species and subject …
